Chetwoods und AECOM wurden gemeinsamen mit der Entwicklung des Masterplans beauftragt.

Das Gartenstadt-Projekt Boxted Wood liegt im westlichen Teil  der Stadt Braintree, einem städteplanerisch hervorgehobenen Bereich der Stadt.

Das Projekt ‚Garden Community‘ wurde von der North Essex Garden Communities Company, einem Joint Venture zwischen Essex County Council, Colchester District Council, Braintree District Council und Tendring District Council initiiert und gemeinsam von der  DCLG gefördert.

Die Vorschläge für Boxted Wood wurden als umweltbewusster, nachhaltiger Masterplan entwickelt.

Realisiert werden sollen bis zu 4.000 neue Wohnungen, 1 Sekundarschule, 3 Grundschulen und Gemeinschaftseinrichtungen, sowie Gemeindezentrum und Gesundheitsfürsorge,

Supermarkt/Kaufhaus, lokale Geschäfte, Hotel, Restaurants & Cafés, Pflegeheim und diverse Sport-, Spiel und Freizeiteinrichtungen.

Ein nachhaltiges Infrastruktursystem, bestehend aus einem Schnelltransitsystem, einem umfangreichen Netz von sicheren Geh- und Radwegen, öffentlichen Freiflächen und einem Multi-Service-Zentrum für Feuerwehr und Polizei sind Grundpfeiler der inneren Entwicklung.

Chetwoods were appointed by Galliard Homes as their joint master planners with Aecom to work on the promotion of Boxted Wood, a proposed new garden community which forms a strategic and significant part of the West of Braintree New Garden Town proposals which are being developed by the North Essex Garden Communities Company, a joint venture between Essex County Council, Colchester District Council, Braintree District Council and Tendring District Council, all of whom are supported by DCLG.

The proposals at Boxted Wood were developed as an environmentally-led sustainable masterplan for an eco-town which will ultimately contribute up to 4,000 homes, 1 secondary school, 3 primary schools, community facilities such as a community centre and health care, supermarket/department store, local shops, a hotel, restaurants & cafes , a care home, leisure facilities, sustainable transport consisting of an orbital rapid light transit system, an extensive network of safe walking and cycling routes, a sports centre, playing fields, public open space and a multi-service centre for fire and police services.
