Chetwoods wurde von ABP mit dem Entwurf für einen brandneuen und auf die Bedürfnisse streng zugeschittenen Standort der ´Royal Navy Reservists´ in Cardiff, beauftragt. Das Investitionsvolumen beträgt 11 Mio. GBP. Das Projekt umfasst die Entwicklung einer zukunftsweisenden Ausbildungsstätte für das 21. Jahrhundert, dass die Anforderungen der britischen Reservestruppen für die nächsten 50 Jahre erfüllt.

Eines der neuen Gebäude wird hochmoderne Schulungs- und Klassenzimmer, Unterkünfte, Verwaltungsräume sowie Sozial- und Fitnesseinrichtungen beherbergen. Der Standort soll auch besuchenden Kriegsschiffen die Nutzung der Kaianlagen sowie der Dock-Einrichtungen ermöglichen.

Ein innovativer Ansatz für die Gestaltung des Gebäudes war erforderlich, um ein starkes Image zu schaffen, das die „Marke“ der Royal Navy widerspiegelt. Die Royal Navy ist eine mächtige Einheit mit einem stolzen Erbe, das eine starke Identität erfordert, um in die Zukunft zu projizieren. Die Royal Navy ist eine einzigartige Kombination aus Land-, Luft- und Seefstreitkräften, die zu einer einzigen flexiblen und dynamischen Streitmacht verschmolzen sind. Das Design des Gebäudes scheint diese Essenz einzufangen.

Das Projekt wird von der Reserve Forces & Cadets ‘Association für Wales in Zusammenarbeit mit der Royal Navy und Associated British Ports durchgeführt.

Chetwoods were appointed by Associated British Ports to design a new £11m bespoke facility for Royal Navy Reservists to be built in Cardiff Bay. The development provides a modern 21st century training establishment that meets the aspirations of the UK’s Reserves Forces for the next 50 years.

The building has state-of-the-art training and classroom suites, accommodation, and administrative services as well as social and fitness facilities. There is access to the waterfront and docking facilities for visiting warships.

An innovative approach to the design of the building was required to create a strong image that reflects the ‘brand’ of the Royal Navy. The Royal Navy is a powerful entity with a proud heritage that demands a strong identity to project into the future.  It is a unique combination of land, air and sea capabilities merged into a single flexible and dynamic force. The design of the building looks to capture this essence.

The project was delivered by the Reserve Forces’ & Cadets’ Association for Wales in partnership with the Royal Navy and Associated British Ports.
