Chetwoods worked with The Crown Estate as Architects and Design Team Leader for the redevelopment and refurbishment of 5 and 7 Swallow Place in London, two office buildings with frontages onto Swallow Place, Regent Street and Oxford Circus.  Previously the area immediately outside the Swallow Place entrance suffered from anti-social behaviour and was not an inviting place to walk through or enter the building from. To combat this, and inject life into the buildings, the scheme’s new entrance screens and a canopy provide a focus to the frontage.

Beyond the enlarged and welcoming contemporary reception areas, new flexible office space is complemented by communal spaces, formal meeting rooms, collaboration desks, refreshment points, comprehensive welfare facilities (cycle storage/showers etc) and a spectacular roof terrace on the sixth floor of 5 Swallow Place.

Chetwoods’ relationship with The Crown Estate evolved following our winning submission in the 2016 AJ/Crown Estate Future Office open ideas competition which asked architects and designers to respond to the challenge of designing an office space operating in 2020.
