Architects and Design Team Leader for the works associated with the 24,000 sq ft redevelopment and refurbishment of the ground plus six-storey office building at 5 Swallow Place with frontages onto Swallow Place and Oxford Street completed in January 2020.
The area immediately outside 5 Swallow Place suffered from anti-social behaviour and was not an inviting place to walk past or indeed enter into the building. To combat this and inject life into the building, the scheme’s new entrance screen and canopy provides a focus to the frontage along with a new enlarged bright and contemporary reception to greet occupiers and guests.
Beyond the reception flexible office space is provided over five floors. Considered co-ordination of exposed services with the larger ductwork housed in the bays of the existing frame gives the impression of increased height, with the location of the lighting de-cluttering the services zone.
Further facilities include communal spaces with formal meeting rooms, collaboration desks, refreshment points, and a spectacular roof terrace on the sixth floor, along with comprehensive welfare facilities (cycle storage/showers etc) that exceed BCO guidance.
